States for Legalization

First things first, Washingtonians have the opportunity from now until October 11th to voice their opinions on home marijuana grows in Washington state. Following an open hearing in Olympia this morning, residents of Washington can email comments and concerns to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (rules@lcb.wa.gov).

Of the 8 states with the most liberal marijuana legislation, Washington is the only one that does not allow home-grows of any kind.

A recommendation is expected by December 1, 2017.

Federal Front

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein continue to bluster about the negative effects of marijuana use and marijuana legalization. According to Rosenstein, "there is some pretty significant evidence that marijuana turns out to be more harmful than a lot of people anticipated."

Although, Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Governor Jay Inslee believe that Sessions and Rosenstein are relying on out-dated or incomplete information. Both Inslee and Ferguson look forward to a face-to-face meeting with Sessions and Rosenstein to discuss legalization in Washington state.

Elsewhere, although Idaho has seen some shifting on the CBD and medical marijuana front, any legislation regarding recreational use or sale is still a hazy pipe dream. However, with a third border state legalizing recreational marijuana, the seed is planted and may yet take root.

Global Awareness

Marijuana legislation is not limited to the U.S. Many countries are currently debating the medicinal and retail value of marijuana. Most notably Canada, set to legalize nationwide by July 2018 (Canada Day). But other countries, including South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi, are looking to marijuana legalization for economic reasons.

Lesotho is the first African country to license a medical marijuana producer. With less restrictions already regarding marijuana growing and use, other African countries could create an abundant and lucrative industry.

That's the 4:20 minute. Keep calm and smoke on.
