Washington State News

Today is the last day for Washington state residents to send their comments and concerns to the WSLCB regarding home-grows for marijuana plants. Email the WSLCB at rules@lcb.wa.gov and let your voice be heard.

About a week ago Spokane Valley police officers seized hundreds of plants from an illegal grow in the Spokane Valley. The alleged perpetrator had a legal and licensed grow operation in Otis Orchards, just north of the Spokane Valley. SVPD was alerted to the illegal weed grow by informants, who also assisted in several sting operations to purchase marijuana. As of today, the suspect is still at large and no arrests have been made.

It seems that Jungle Boys and Exotikz have brought their expertly honed ability to create perfect buds to the Inland Northwest. Recently, Exotikz products have become available in Washington state and this may signal another partnership to further the Jungle Boys’ takeover of the legal weed game on the west coast. U.S. Legalization Update

In Alaska last week, voters spoke loud and clear regarding proposed bans on commercial marijuana production and sales. Alaskans are definitely embracing legal weed and they collected $700,000 in taxes from producers during the month of August alone.

A study conducted by DePaul and Rush universities in Illinois shows that Medical Marijuana (MMJ) patients have a lower opioid use than non-MMJ patients. There are limitations on the study, though, specifically a small sample count (only 30 patients participated) and it was based on anecdotal evidence.

However, lead study author Douglas Bruce says “there's power in people telling their stories” and he believes in the importance of “qualitative research to understand how people are using cannabis”. Currently, Illinois has legalized MMJ for nearly 40 conditions including fibromyalgia, cancer and PTSD.

Global Front

Last week The 420 Minute reported on Canada’s road to legalization for 2018. Although our neighbor to the north is on track for nationwide recreational marijuana legalization by July 1, 2018, it seems that edibles won’t be available until July 2019.

Although the main purpose of this later release seems to be regulatory, those opposed to it think it is a pointless delay of the inevitable which will subject Canadians to black market buying for edibles while smokable marijuana products are available legally.

That’s the 420 minute.
